Choosing an Approved Driving Instructor

ADI stands for Approved Driving Instructor – the person who will teach you to drive and (fingers crossed!) help you pass your test. All ADIs will have undertaken training and be approved by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) in order to conduct learner driver training. You can tell if a person is an ADI as they are required to display a green ADI certificate on their windshield while training. If a pink certificate is displayed this indicates that they are a trainee, and are getting teaching experience before they pass their instructors exam.  RoSPA.

Dave is the go-to driving instructor for the kids of people in my year group from school. You know he is going to be good but you always wonder if that is all talk! Well, now that my kid has had his lessons, and passed his test, I can guarantee that if you select Dave as the instructor for your kid he will not disappoint. Under the current climate getting driving tests is a bit of a nightmare so for Alex to have his lessons and test done all inside 6 months I am super pleased. Alex is really confident with his driving and I attribute that totally to Dave’s instruction. From what Alex tells me, Dave is a calm kind of chap, highly knowledgeable and Alex really enjoyed his lessons. Anyone that can get through to a teenage boy and show them that being good at GTA does not a driver make is alright in my book.

Louise Barrette (Alex’s mum) Test sat 11th November 2021

I started off with Dave as a nervous driver who had many, many lessons prior but was still struggling. He was both patient and understanding with me. He took the time to ask me why and put into place strategies to address and help my anxieties. This approach made a huge difference and gave me confidence in my own abilities that I never had prior. I would recommend Dave to any new driver but in particular those who are nervous. He’s a real gem and I know I wouldn’t have passed my test without him.

Roxanne Blanco – Test Success 24/09/2021

Dave is an excellent instructor who I’d recommend to anyone wanting to learn to drive. He’s calm, friendly and professional, and always explained things and answered questions with patience and clarity. Thanks to Dave I passed first time.

Driving test 11th February 2020

After moving from America to the UK, I was quite intimidated by not only learning the rules of the road in a new country, but needing to learn to drive a manual on the opposite side! Thankfully I had Dave help me with this. Dave was incredibly patient and was great at helping me through my initial fumbling, all the way to the finer points of reading busy roundabouts. He was always on time, and never missed a lesson. With his coaching, I was able to realise and overcome my bad habits I had built up from my 17 years of driving in America. Thanks to Dave, I have passed my driving test, and I’m back on the road again!

Joel – Test Success 19th June

Dave Collinson is a fantastic driving instructor. He provides a calm, relaxing and enjoyable environment for learning to drive. From my own experience of failing previously with a different instructor a few years ago, I was quite unsure of myself and my abilities. However, Dave was able to professionally coach me and provide me with specific and expert advice to greatly benefit me. His clear and thorough instructions enabled me to pass first time under his teaching. I would highly recommend Dave to a wide variety of learners who are looking for a professional, tailored and top quality service.
